CIRCUMPLEX

The Circumplex – Our Measurement Model

An innovative breakthrough four decades ago, the Circumplex has continuously undergone rigorous evaluation and improvement. It has earned the trust and endorsement of millions of clients worldwide, underscoring its enduring validity, significance, and worth.

If you embrace the saying that ‘a picture speaks volumes,’ you’ll appreciate the elegance of the Human Synergistics Circumplex.

With this practical visual device:

  1. You have the ability to discern the thought processes and behavioral patterns influencing the performance of individuals and teams within your organization, as well as the organization’s overall dynamics.
  2. Have access to a common ‘language’ that you can use to quantify and discuss individuals’, teams’, managers’ and leaders’ behavioural styles and approaches, as well as the culture of your organisation.
  3. You’ll establish a solid basis for nurturing your personnel, enhancing performance, and enhancing your organizational culture.

How does the Circumplex work?

The Circumplex is typically incorporated into Human Synergistics’ measurement tools such as the

  1. Organisational Culture Inventory
  2. Life Styles Inventory
  3. Group Styles Inventory
  4. Customer Service Styles Survey

As you can see in the image, it breaks down the factors underlying performance effectiveness (at individual, group and organisational levels) according to 12 behaviours or styles.

These behaviours or styles are further grouped according to three general style clusters:

  1.  Constructive styles encourage the attainment of organisational goals through people development; promote teamwork and synergy; and enhance individual, group and organisational adaptability and effectiveness.
  2.  Aggressive/Defensive styles cause individuals to prioritize their own needs over those of their group and organization, resulting in stress, high turnover, and inconsistent performance.
  3.  Passive/Defensive styles lead people to subordinate themselves to the organisation, stifle creativity and initiative, and allow the organisation to stagnate.

Blue, green, and red extensions on the Circumplex visually represent statistical outcomes and the intensity of styles in percentile scores. This enables you to gauge how your individual, group, or organizational results stack up against those of thousands of other researched organizations.

The Circumplex is simple, elegant and extraordinarily insightful – a great tool for organisations pursuing performance excellence at every level. Contact us to find out more.
